Boosting Transparency and Accountability to Improve Child Protection in NSW
December 16, 2011
On 14 December 2011, Pru launched the inaugural Child Deaths Annual Report at Parliament House - the first by a child protection agency in Australia to publicly report in this way on the deaths of children known to them.
The Child Deaths 2010 Annual Report is the first NSW Government public report focusing on the deaths of children known to Community Services. It discusses Community Services’ involvement with the 139 children known to Community Services who died between 1 January and 31 December 2010.
The report presents information about the children and their families, the responses they received from Community Services, the lessons that have been learned from these cases, and the NSW Government’s reforms to improve practices and performance. The Child Deaths 2010 Annual Report will help to embed a culture of continuous improvement and reform to improve services.
This annual NSW Government report delivers on the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government’s election commitment to boost accountability and transparency. This report and the ones that follow will deepen public understanding of the child protection system and the essential reforms the Government pursues to improve services in NSW.
