GOULBURN WELCOMES THE AUSTRALIAN INDOOR HOCKEY FESTIVAL
Goulburn is set to welcome Australia’s best indoor hockey players next week when the 2018 Australian Indoor Hockey Festival kicks off at Veolia Arena.
The Festival is supported by the NSW Government via its tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW as part of a long-term partnership with Hockey Australia.
Member for Goulburn Pru Goward said the event would provide a significant boost to local businesses.
“The Australian Indoor Hockey Festival comes off the back of the hugely successful Hockey NSW Indoor State Championships, which were held here across a number of weekends in late 2016 and early 2017,” Ms Goward said.
The Festival will take place over three weeks
and will see 53 teams and more than 800 players descend on Goulburn. With the
event including age group tournaments from Under 13s through to Under 21s,
there will be a number families who choose to travel with the teams and enjoy
an extended holiday in the Goulburn region.
“This provides a fantastic opportunity for local businesses, accommodation providers, restaurants and tourism operators to capitalise on the influx of visitors and showcase why Goulburn is such a wonderful holiday destination.
Indoor hockey is played at a quicker pace than field hockey, with six players per side. The Festival will pit State versus State for the chance to be crowned national champions.
The Australian Indoor Hockey Festival will be held from Thursday 4 January until Thursday 25 January 2018 at the Veolia Arena and entry is free.
